Hello! I'm Rafik, and i'm the founder of Buy Good. Feel Good.
I want to start off by welcoming you all to our Buy Good. Feel Good community. I wanted to take a moment of your time to share with you how Buy Good. Feel Good. came to be, and how your support is positively impacting our world.
How it all started...
I originally come from Egypt, and at the very young age of 12, I discovered Cairo’s garbage collectors community and witnessed firsthand the impact poverty and social exclusion had on that community.
Determined to change that, I studied and started working in the field of international development and poverty alleviation for over 10 years to try to do what I can to help communities such as that of Cairo's garbage collectors, or the Zabaleen as we call it there.
I made the move to Canada in 2011 and started SALT, a fair trade social enterprise that worked with communities in Africa and Latin America. The sole mission was to support artisans in Egypt and other underprivileged communities around the world by showcasing the amazing work and potential these overlooked communities had to offer.
My appreciation for social enterprise, as a business model that circumvents the shortcomings of conventional corporate models, led me to found Buy Good. Feel Good. in 2014.
It started out as an in-person event and grew over the years to become the largest sustainable shopping marketplace for social enterprises and impact brands in North America.
Unfortunately, when the pandemic started we had to cancel our in-person events for 2020 and 2021, and we decided to pivot to become an online marketplace for impact brands to reach a bigger audience.
This is African Bronze Honey, one of the first brands to join the Buy Good. Feel Good. community. They make sustainably harvested, organic, forest honey. They support beekeepers by creating economic opportunity and job security for their 10,000 sustainable beekeepers and their communities in Africa.
Connecting good people to good brands
So where are we now? We're Canada's largest one-stop shop for ethical and sustainable gifts, a place where we can guarantee every purchase translates into a decent fair salary for artisans and a promise to be more conscious of the planet.
I sincerely hope you stay with me on this journey, and that we slowly change the world we live in into one my 12-year-old self would be proud to be a part of.
